Scott's mother invited him and I to Seattle for lunch today, and boy was it a treat. We rarely venture up the 35 or so miles north and embrace all the city has to offer. The traffic and headache of parking is such a deterrent, and frankly, we have developed quit an affection for T-town, or Tacoma.
We had accumulated quite a list of award winning restaurants that we wanted to try and decided going up for lunch was a perfect idea. And perfect it turned out. Besides the cold and wet weather, we visited 3 great locations and found effortless, close, and free street parking each time. That NEVER happens. First, we stopped by Pike Place Market to pick up some favorite staples (and cute new hats for the kids which I could not resist) then we proceeded to The Whale Wins for a spectacular lunch. One of three restaurants by chef Renee Erickson. The mussels I had were the best ever! Last, we stopped at Salumi, a restaurant/deli that sells specialty cured meats and has been in operation for over a century by the Batali family. Yeah, as in Mario Batali. It's now run by his sister. Then it was back home to pick up the kids from daycare before hitting any rush hour traffic. A trip this successful makes us want to do this more often!
