Gorgeous Granite

It's official. The granite is in. It looks better than we could have imagined and the pictures just don't do it justice. All the time I spent on having it cut just right was worth it. Next week the appliances all get delivered and installed. In the meantime our contractor is doing touchups throughout the house and painting our closets.

Happy Easter

Our family spent the Easter weekend doing yard work outside on a beautiful Saturday and celebrating the holiday with many friends dear to us. Grace got dressed up for Easter service at church and I must say that we have quite the doll on our hands. I need to dress her up in dresses more often although right now she's learning tobe more mobile and clothes other than pants are a bit hindering. We hope you all enjoyed the holiday with loved ones.

I'm NOT Hungry

Grace was not hungry yesterday when it was dinner time. She hadn't even tried her first bite of food and she was scrunching her face, closing her eyes, and clamping her mouth shut. To her credit, she has been a little sick lately, and when she wasn't crying because we were trying to force feed her, this scrunched face was crazy cute.

Latest Kitchen Update

So the majority of the cabinets are installed. Still some finishing touches need to be done. These pictures are from earlier in the week. Today all the trim work and doors were painted for the entire upstairs and tomorrow the remainder of the island and bathroom will be painted completing the painting altogether. Next, the granite gets installed on Monday. We can hardly wait to see it.

I got the opportunity to go to the location where the granite would be cut Tuesday to ensure certain pieces of the slabs would make it to our countertops. Scott was out of town and I was watching JJ, now 14 months, and being this was a time sensitive appointment I couldn't reschedule. It was quite the scene walking into this warehouse with Grace strapped to the front of my chest and JJ in the stroller that I had to push over the gravel road down the steep hill I parked on to enter the business. By the end of the appointment there was a trail of goldfish snacks on the wet concrete floor of the place, which proved to be handy in keeping the kids preoccupied as I readjusted the layout of the template multiple times until it was just right. Excited to see it in our own kitchen next week! More photos to come...

Shoot guns, get paid.

One of the most awesome things about being in the military is you get paid to do stuff most other people have to pay for. Sunday I was required to requalify on the 9mm handgun. It was one of the few sunny days we have had recently, I was outside, shooting a gun, and I got paid! Awesome day. I did pretty good, but still not expert.
My dad was in the army and I showed him the photos this morning of how we do things in the AF.  Then I got to hear a nice nostalgic story about how he use to do it "way back when."
Thanks to Tammi for taking some great shots.

Matching...

When Sarah works, it's up to the man 'o the house to change Grace out of her sleeper suits into her crawl-around cloths. (That's me by the way) For the first couple of weeks Sarah would choose an outfit and lay it onto Grace's changing table. Much to her chagrin though, I simply sluffed this new responsibility, leaving grace in her footed PJ's. They were warm, simple, and provided easy access for diaper changed. However, after Sarah's parents visited and I saw how Allan enjoyed choosing Grace's daily outfit, I decided I should at least attempt to do the same.
For the fist 4 days of this week, every time Sarah came home and saw the outfit I had chosen for Grace, she would say the same thing, "That doesn't match!" even though it did match. So on Friday I decided to fall onto old habits and leave Grace in her sleeper. When Sarah came home, I heard a familiar phrase, "You are still in your PJ's?!" So today, I tried extra hard, and even though Sarah hasn't been home yet to ensure I picked matching cloths, I'm so confident that I'm sharing a photo of Grace in her outfit today. I'll report Sarah's reaction when she comes home tonight.

Miami Vice

When I mentioned Sarah is working on improving her photography skills - this is the baseline - the last time we paid for photos. Grace at 9 months. These first two are by far my favorite, mostly due to the expressions on Grace's face, but also the awesome Miami Vice backdrop.

Sun Deck

This year's spring has been unusually rainy and cold, even for the Pacific Northwest. Friday, we had a glimpse of what summer will bring. The whole family spent some time getting their vitamin D on Grandma's deck.

Flower Child

It was 70's Retro Day a few days ago. We listened to protest songs, I wore bellbottoms, Sarah put flowers in her hair, and Grace wore a vintage shirt.

Actually, now that we have paid a few times for professional photos and we now know how much those can run, Sarah has decided to add photographer to her ever increasing job titles. (Mom, wife, and all around amazing person weren't enough.) It also helps that we have some pretty talented acquaintances who photograph on the side to motivate us to at least not look like silly ammeters with a disposable camera - nothing against disposables, they are great. It is with this in mind that we recently have been getting a lot of use out of my 6 year old digital SLR camera. I bought my Nikon D70 back when I started flying for the Air Force thinking that I too would build my photographic skills, but here we are 6 years later and although I've taken some great photos, I attribute it more to sheer volume and chance than to skill. Sarah, on the other hand, has really been focusing on lighting, composition, framing, shutter speed, depth of field, ect... to take some nice photos. Obviously, I like to call this set "Flower Child."

Bubblegum Wall

A couple of weeks ago when we were in Seattle, Sarah, Grace, and I visited the (in)famous Seattle Bubblegum Wall that lives below Pike Place Market. Even though Sarah and I have visited Pike Place several times, it was the first visit to the wall for all three of us. We even added our own sample to the living art.

We misplace the camera until yesterday so didn't have the photos. Once we found the camera, we had to re-find the data cord to transfer the photos to the computer. I though technology was making things easier...

Open Top Buggy

At 10 months we finally decided it's not worth dragging the car seat into the grocery store any more. Grace enjoyed her first ride in a shopping buggy, top side. I do believe she thought every item on the shelf was a new toy. She looks so sad because I pushed the buggy down the middle of the isles so her "toys" were just out of reach.
